Feelin Flush Sets New Century Record
Feelin Flush established a new track record of 1:53 at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino while winning the $10,500 Fillies & Mares Open Pace in wire-to-wire fashion for trainer/driver Travis Cullen.
Not only did she break her old distaff track record of 1:55.1, but the As Promised mare also shaved two-fifths of a second off the all-age record that pacing gelding Medicine Hat had set on May 10.
Leaving from the inside post position, Cullen put the popular mare Feelin Flush ($4.60) on the lead and they cruised through fractions :27.3, :57 and 1:24.4 before sealing the deal with a :28.1 final quarter. Skade and Philip Giesbrecht, the 17-1 longshots in the field of six, followed two and a half lengths behind in second-place while the winner's stablemate and last week's Mares Open champion, Sing Like An Angel, advanced from the back of the pack and finished third with Brandon Campbell aboard.
Cullen and Ken Hanson share ownership of the seven-year-old mare, who is now five-for-nine this year after an 11-win 2014 campaign that earned her Alberta's Champion Aged Mare Award. She now boasts 37 career wins and $258,964 in earnings. Her 1:53 mile was one-fifth of a second off her lifetime mark that she took last September at Alberta Downs.
Feelin Flush was part of a training-driving triple on the eight-race card for Cullen that also included wins by fellow As Promised offspring Wigejet and Make It So.
