Fine After Social Media Food Complaint
Have you ever been less then impressed with food that you purchased while at the races? If so, make sure you don’t do anything rash, as a mention of it on social media could lead to a fine.
According to an article by the BBC, Irish jockey Cathy Gannon was fined £290 after tweeting her displeasure with some of the fare at Newbury Racecourse in the United Kingdom. The tweet contained an image of the food that she was referring to.
The stewards technically fined the 33-year-old rider for having used a smartphone while in the jockeys’ room, which is a violation under the rules.
The report explains that after hearing about the situation, fellow riders reached into their pockets to try to cover the cost of the fine.
Gannon later acknowledged the actions of her fellow riders. She mentioned on Twitter that she was pleased with the gesture, but admitted that the situation was ultimately her fault.
"Thanks for all your support,” she tweeted. “I broke the rules, I must except (sic) the punishment. I only did it as they don't listen."
