Waasmula Caps Henry's Five-Bagger
Driver Trevor Henry capped off a five-win Friday night at Mohawk Racetrack by steering Waasmula to victory in the featured $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace.
Waasmula returned to the WEG circuit after a close third-place finish in the $75,000 Chip Noble Memorial on May 3 at Miami Valley Raceway. Prior to her stateside debut, she had posted back-to-back Preferred wins at Mohawk and on Friday she earned her third of the season in the 10th race.
Henry made a quarter-pole move with Waasmula and swept around early outside leaver Rock N Roll Xample, who sprinted the first panel in :26.4. After clearing to command, Waasmula posted middle splits of :55.1 and 1:23 and was urged home to the 1:50.4 triumph. Lady Shadow and Doug McNair advanced first over to finish second while Rock N Roll Xample and James MacDonald settled for third.
Sent postward at odds of 6-1, Waasmula paid $14 to win as the fourth choice in the nine-horse field.
Owned and bred by Brent of Vincent of Allenford, Ont., Waasmula has won 21 races in her career while collecting $657,160 in purse earnings. Bruce Goit trains the seven-year-old Million Dollar Cam mare.
Henry won three consecutive races earlier on the 12-race card with Twin B Wrangler ($11.60), Strong Hope ($6.90) and Rub N Tug ($36.30), and picked up another victory aboard Karlee Sue ($5.20).
