Boardmaster Upsets In Buffalo Open
Dismissed by the bettors at 11-1, Boardmaster won Saturday evening’s $9,000 Open Handicap Pace at Buffalo Raceway in 1:56.1 for owner Betty Tauber
of East Brunswick, New Jersey.
Capably driven by Ken Holliday, the five-year-old son of Blissfull Hall left from post two and settled into fourth while Oh Gee Whiz cut the early fractions of :29 and :59. Holliday pulled Boardmaster to outside right before the half-mile pole and was first-over going down the backstretch.
With a burst of speed, Boardmaster took over command at the three-quarter pole in 1:28. Arm And A Leg tried chasing the leader in the stretch, but fell two-lengths short at the wire to finish second. Oh Gee Whiz wound up third.
It was the second win of the year in nine attempts for Boardmaster, and the $4,500 share of the winning purse put his 2009 bankroll at $14,525 while his lifetime total rose to $90,440.
