Duncan ‘Frankie’ Trenholm Passes

Trot Insider has learned that longtime horseman Duncan Frank ‘Frankie’ Trenholm of Port Hood, Nova Scotia passed away suddenly at his home on May 12 at the age of 67.

Trenholm was involved in the industry as an owner and trainer for more than 40 years. He passed his love of the sport on to his sons, daughter and grandchildren. He campaigned many horses over the years, including Whirlaway Pick, Little Leaf, West River Omego, Tarport TJ, Boswell Hanover, Matts Legend and Emmys Cailoux.

Born on March 20, 1948, Frankie was a son of the late Lester and Mary (Campbell) Trenholm. He married the love of his life, the late Margie (Beaton) Trenholm, 43 years ago on May 5.

Frankie was also a loving father, brother, and grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn (Liam) MacDonald, Mabou; sons, Michael (Stephanie), Port Hood; and Brian (Heather), Windsor, Ont.; sister, Carolyn (Joe) Janega, Port Hawkesbury; brothers, Ronnie (Catherine), Port Hood; Gary (Lorraine), Halifax; grandchildren, Matthew, Liam, Sam, Ally, Kate, Mason, Mackenzie Trenholm; Parker and Marli MacDonald.

Frankie was a fixture in the horse racing community and will be greatly missed by his fellow horsemen. Frankie worked as an iron worker for 39 years at Stora Forest Industries where he valued his many longtime friendships with co-workers.

Visitation will take place on Friday, May 15 from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in Port Hood and Area Resting Place. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 16 at 2 p.m. in St. Peter's Parish Church, Port Hood with Fr. Vincent vanZutphen. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery.
