Yonkers Open To Krispy Apple
They left Krispy Apple alone Friday night and the seven-figure sister made them pay, winning Yonkers Raceway’s featured $42,000 Filly and Mare Open Handicap Pace.
Assigned outside her six foes, the millionaires and driver Jason Bartlett worked around Sir Jillian Z Tam (Pat Lachance), then had nary an anxious moment through fractions of :27.3, 57.1 and 1:25.1. Despite the cheap fractions, Sir Jillian Z Tam lost touch, while 7-5 fave Delightful Dragon (George Brennan) was never able to get close from first-up. Krispy Apple roared home in :27.2 to win in 1:52.3.
The final margin for Krispy Apple was 3-½ lengths, with Cherry Bliss (Mark MacDonald) winning a three-way scrum for second. Delightful Dragon, Sir Jillian Z Tam and Virgin Mary (Jordan Stratton) settled for the remainder.
For Krispy Apple, a seven-year-old daughter of Western Ideal co-owned by Bamond Racing and Joseph Davino and trained by Jeffrey Bamond, Jr., it was her second win in seven seasonal starts. The career winner of $1,313,323 returned $7.70.
