PEI Colt Stakes
Two and three-year-old pacing colts and fillies and two and three-year-old trotters who are Maritime
sired or foaled for which a nomination fee is paid.
TO BE RACED AT: Charlottetown Driving Park and Summerside Raceway.
The purse shall consist of nominating, sustaining, supplementary fees, Government funding, starting fees, host
track contribution, and added sponsorship money. All divisions of any event shall carry the same purse based on total
purse divided by the number of divisions. Gold pacing divisions will race for a minimum of double the purse set for the
grassroots pacing divisions. Purses will be set at the discretion of the stake administrator.
PAYMENTS: The following payments are required to become and remain eligible.
Starting Fees:
Trotting Divisions: $200 per event
Pacing Divisions: Grassroots Pacing Divisions: $200 per event
Gold Pacing Divisions: $300 per event
All payments will be made to Standardbred Canada apart from starting fees.
Starting payments are due at the host track one hour prior to post time of the event.
All payments under this program are forfeits.

BREEDERS AWARD: Breeders’ awards, as determined by the sponsor, shall be paid to two- and three-year old colts and
fillies whose certificate of registration indicates place of foaling to be Prince Edward Island and whose dam resided on PEI
for at least 183 days of the foaling year. (Residency requirement to be verified by signed affidavit submitted to PEIHRIA
preferably before December 1st of the foaling year). These awards shall be paid by the PEI Harness Racing Industry
Association subject to funding made available from Government programs in support of the Island breeding industry.
DECLARATION TO START: At a time and date as established by the race office at the host track. All owners declaring in
shall be responsible for payment whether the horse starts. Failure to pay the starting fee by the date of the event shall
result in the suspension of all horses owned by said owner from participation in this or any subsequent edition of the PEI
Colt Stakes until the fee is paid in full.
FORMAT: Two legs for each of 2 and 3-year-old pacing colts, 2 and 3-year-old pacing fillies and 2 and 3-year-old trotters.

FUNDING: A minimum of $240,000 Added ($120,000 at both 2 and 3) - $48,000 each for fillies and colts and $24,000 for
trotters - Plus applicable nomination, sustaining, starting, and supplemental fees. All nomination, supplemental, and
sustaining fees will be allocated as follows: Nomination fees for foals of a certain year will be split 50% between their two-
and three-year-old racing years. Sustaining and supplemental fees are raced for in the year they are paid. Host tracks add
$1,5000 per Grassroots Division, $2,000 per Gold Division, and $2,000 per Trotting Division.
DIVISIONS: Horses declared in any event shall be divided by SC electronic draw where there are 9 or more declarations
to start, and no division shall consist of more than 8 entries. For any event held before August 15th, two-year-old pacers
with $5,000 or less in lifetime earnings at the time of declaration will be eligible to race in a grassroots division and three-
year olds with $15,000 or less in lifetime earnings at time of declaration will be eligible to race in a grassroots division. For
any event held after August 15th, two-year-old pacers with $10,000 or less in lifetime earnings at time of declaration will be
eligible to race in a grassroots division and three-year-old pacers with $20,000 or less in lifetime earnings at time of
declaration will be eligible to race in a grassroots division. Owners of horses fitting the proceeding conditions will have the
ability to choose between entry in a grassroots or gold division at time of entry. All other horses with earnings exceeding
the above thresholds must compete in the gold division. Trotting events will separate filly and colt divisions of the same
age group if there is a minimum of three horses of the same sex in each division. Trotting events are not separated into
Gold and Grassroots formats.
CONDITION CHANGES: The thresholds for the two- and three-year-old pacing events have been changed to the
following: For any event held before August 15th, two-year-old pacers with $5,000 or less in lifetime earnings at the time of
declaration will be eligible to race in a grassroots division and three-year olds with $15,000 or less in lifetime earnings at
time of declaration will be eligible to race in a grassroots division. For any event held after August 15th, two-year-old
pacers with $10,000 or less in lifetime earnings at time of declaration will be eligible to race in a grassroots division and
three-year-old pacers with $20,000 or less in lifetime earnings at time of declaration will be eligible to race in a grassroots
division. Owners of horses fitting the proceeding conditions will have the ability to choose between entry in a grassroots or
gold division at time of entry. All other horses with earnings exceeding the above thresholds must compete in the gold
division. Trotting events will separate filly and colt divisions of the same age group if there is a minimum of three horses of
the same sex in each division. Trotting events are not separated into Gold and Grassroots formats.
QUALIFICATION: All horses must qualify to race based on time and performance standards established for the Atlantic
Standardbred Breeders Association or as amended by the participating racetrack with the approval of the PEI
Standardbred Breeders Association and the Prince Edward Island Harness Racing Industry Association.
GENERAL CONDITIONS:
1. APHRC assumes no liability for purses, injury, damages, or loss to participants in this event.
2 Each event is to be contested at one mile (1609 m)
3. Purse distribution for five or more finishers is 45%, 25%, 15%, 10% and 5%, four finishers 50%, 25%, 15%, and 10%,
three finishers 50%, 30%, and 20%, two finishers 60% and 40%, and one finisher 100%. Purses shall be paid out by the
participating track on behalf of the PEI Standardbred Breeders Association and the Prince Edward Island Harness Racing
Industry Association.
4. All nominating, sustaining, and starting fees shall be added to the purses with no deduction for clerical or managerial
work, advertising, or publicity.
5. If more horses declare to start than are permitted in one dash on the track where the race is to take place, the event
shall be split into divisions with entries determined by Standardbred Canada electronic draw. No division shall consist of
more than eight entries. If two or more divisions are required, the host track shall add the regular portion to each division.
6. Any entry changing gait after the sustaining fee(s) have been made will be transferred to the new gait adopted,
providing such request is in writing. The starting fees for the said entry shall be applied to the new gait.
7. The PEI Harness Racing Industry Association and the PEI Standardbred Breeders Association, within their sole
discretion, may from time to time make changes to the terms, conditions, and/or to the purse structure of the PEI Colt
Stakes of any kind whatsoever, including added money, as well as nomination and sustaining payments and starting fees
with the approval of the APHRC and proper notice given to the industry and the nominator agrees to be bound by such
changes.
8. Should conditions beyond the control of the PEIHRIA and the PEISBA prevent the racing of any event, the PEIHRIA
and the PEISBA reserve the right to declare off any event and redistribute the money to those currently eligible, or to
transfer the event to another date, or to another track, or to do both.
9. Standardbred Canada, the PEIHRIA, and the PEISBA assume no responsibility for nominations or payments made by
mail which are not received. Sending payments by Registered Mail is recommended. All payments must be post-
marked no later than the said due date.
10. If an explicit interpretation of these conditions might not be acceptable to all parties, the Board of Directors of the
PEISBA and the PEIHRIA reserve the right to interpret these conditions in an implicit manner in accordance with the goals
and objectives of the organizations as may be established and amended at any time with the approval of the APHRC and
proper notice given to the industry.
