Carnivore Wins Red Shores Feature
Carnivore, under the command of driver Walter Cheverie, won the feature race during opening night of the spring meet on Saturday at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Carnivore, owned by Valleygrove Farms of Kensington, P.E.I. and trained by Marvyn Webster, prevailed in the $2,200 top class over favourite Tempo Seelster (Vince Poulton) in 1:57.3. Outside The Wire (Jason Hughes) was third. The 4-3-1 triactor returned $51.70.
Torpedo Seelster and driver Corey MacPherson captured the opener with a 2:00 performance for trainer Ron Gass and owners Jim MacPhail and George Rogers of Calgary, Alta. and Darcy Murphy of Rothesay, N.B. MacPherson also scored with his newcomer Useful Hanover from the Jason Sherry stable of Kensington.
Brian Andrew also recorded a driving double on the program. Andrew was joined in the winner’s circle by Ocean 100’s Megan MacKinnon when he guided his own trainee Every Day to victory in the fourth race. It was MacKinnon’s top pick when she joined the broadcast team for a pre-race interview. Thirteen-year-old Andreoli Hanover gave Andrew his second winner with a top effort in race six. Mark Bradley was the winning trainer.
Gary Chappell also climbed the driver standings scoring twice aboard Time To Get Jiggy for owner Paul Conway and his trainee My Lucky Killean from the Dr. Mary Mcniven stable of Nine Mile Creek, P.E.I.
Wager for the 10-race program was $30,162.
