Canada's Leaders Continue Leading
The 2015 harness racing season is one-third complete according to the calendar, but as months turn from April to May there are no changes to the trainers and drivers atop Canada's leaderboard of wins, purse earnings and percentages.
Sylvain Filion is the top money winning driver in Canada as of May 1. His total purses, exceeding $1.2 million, leads James MacDonald ($1,159,416) and Doug McNair ($1,050,580).
Once again, Iona Station, Ont.'s Alfie Carroll leads all Canadian drivers for races won with 165. Carroll's win total fronts Robert Shepherd (123) and Billy Davis Jr. (115).
Bill Davis rounded out the recently-concluded meet at Fraser Downs in fine form, boasting both the nation's highest UDRS (among those with 85 or more starts) as a driver (0.442) and a trainer (0.517). Davis leads Gord Brown (0.374) and Serge Masse (0.360) on the driving side, and David Menary (0.426) and Isabelle Darveau (0.415) on the training side.
Canada's leading trainer the last two seasons , Richard Moreau continues his dominance with the best win (95) and purse ($1,062,603) total in the nation. Next on the earnings side are Carmen Auciello ($589,554) and David Menary ($417,950), while Patrick Shepherd (70) and Bill Davis (40) are next best for wins.
