Chalk City In Blossom Sequel
Next week’s final of the Blossom Series for three-year-old fillies figures to be a barnburner thanks to the presence of the talented fillies, Cast No Shadow and Maplelea.
Cast No Shadow, who was a 1:54.3 winning in week one of the series, produced a 1:52.2 victory in her Monday evening assignment. The daughter of Shadow Play-Hypnotize got away sixth for driver Mike Saftic while Moonlit Dance and Shesastarreporter battled through fractions of :26.3, :56 and 1:25.1. Saftic grabbed cover for his filly in the backstretch, and when he asked her to sprint she complied. Her :26.4 closing quarter propelled her to the win by 1-3/4 lengths over Moonlit Dance. High Fashion Mel was third.
Des Tackoor trains the photogenic pacer, who is 5-for-5 this season after going 0-for-4 last year, for trainer Millard Adams of Carlisle, Ohio. The lion’s share of Monday’s $15,000 purse bumped her lifetime earnings to $41,240. She paid $2.50 to win.
Maplelea extended her winning streak to five-in-a-row thanks to her 1:56 triumph in the second division. The daughter of Sportswriter-Maple Lady got away last for driver Rick Zeron, who watched Beyonces Rockn, Pinot Grigio and Much Adoo take turns on the lead through fractions of :28.2, 1:00.1 and 1:29.1. Zeron slipped into the flow with his filly in the backstretch and tracked cover into the lane before tipping out and storming home in :26.1 for the win. Maplelea drew clear to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Doctor Terror, with Beyonces Rockn taking home third prize.
Owned and trained by Andrew Moore of Russell, Ontario, Maplelea improved her 2015 record to 7-2-0 from nine starts with the win. She lifted her lifetime earnings to $82,875 in the process. She paid $3.00 to win.
The $36,200 final of the Blossom Series is scheduled for Monday, April 13 at Mohawk Racetrack.
