D Gs Pesquero Scores Preferred Win
D Gs Pesquero glided past her rivals in the stretch to win Good Friday's featured $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace at Woodbine Racetrack.
After following along single file in fourth place for three-quarters of the mile, driver Jonathan Drury made his move with D Gs Pesquero and rallied past first up Greystone Ladylike and pacesetter Putmeintogo (:27.4, :58, 1:27.4) with a :27.1 final quarter over the sloppy track. D Gs Pesquero opened up three and a half lengths down the stretch before hitting the wire in 1:55.2 for her second victory this year. She paid $10.30 to win as the 4-1 third choice on the toteboard.
The distaff winner last week, even-money favourite Putmeintogo, with Sylvain Filion aboard, fought back to edge out 7-5 second choice Greystone Ladylike and Doug McNair in the race for place. Rubis Prescott and Wanna Rock N Roll completed the compact field, which was scratched down to five with Marquise De Sarah out sick.
D Gs Pesquero now has seven top-three finishes in 13 starts during her five-year-old campaign and purse earnings totalling $54,380. The Mach Three-Dg S El Nina mare races from the Carmen Auciello barn and is owned by Robert Watson, Armando Cappuccitti, Mike Bartram, and Stephen Klunowski.
Drury and Auciello had a "Good Friday" teaming up for a triple on the 10-race card, also scoring wins with Kiss Me Or Not ($13.10) and Windsong Jacoba ($6.60). In addition, Drury picked up a victory aboard the Colin Johnson-trained four-year-old trotter Micheals Turn ($7.20), who is now undefeated in five starts.
