Aiken, SC Races Considered A Success
It has been reported that roughly 1,000 people showed up to the McGhees’ Mile Track in Aiken, South Carolina this past Saturday (March 28) to take in a card of live racing after a 12-year absence.
According to the Aiken Standard, Flashy Cash won the feature event on the eight-race card, as the five-year-old Hi Highness gelding got the job done in 2:00.3.
“Today is so special; I’m ecstatic,” spectator Sissy Brodie was quoted as saying. “Because of the nostalgia, we need to bring back things like this.”
“The horses are gorgeous, the track is beautiful and the people are great,” another racegoers, Carolyn Beeler, added. “We’ve had a wonderful day.”
Famed announcer Roger Huston called the action an organizer Janis McGhee said that even though there were a few wrinkles, the day was a success.
“I’m happy,” McGhee said. “I couldn’t have asked for anything more. There were some wrinkles, but those can be ironed out. We’ll do this again next year, that’s for sure.”
