Tetrick Tearing It Up At Dover
After posting five wins on the Wednesday card at Dover Downs, driver Tim Tetrick returned on Thursday and once again dominated the winner's circle.
Tetrick used the quickest way home driving race favourite Contraband Hanover to notch a career fastest 1:51 clocking in the $16,500 Open Pace. The win was the second straight and fifth of the year in eight starts for the altered son of Somebeachsomewhere-Castaway. For owner Tom Lazzaro, it was one of two wins during the card. Bandito (Daryl Bier) cut out the fast fractions but had to settle for second-place. Scalped (Montrell Teague) took third money.
Tetrick also drove the winner of another $16,500 Open/Handicap, Maddysonofagun, for his parents -- Mary Alice and Tom Tetrick. Jim King is trainer of the 1:52 winner. A grey gelding by Modern Art-Maddy Girl, the five-year-old bested a tough Four Staces (Corey Callahan) and Ballinrobe (Allan Davis), second and third respectively.
The third place finisher at the 2015 World Driving Championship in Australia, Tetrick finished with six wins on the card giving him 11 over the last two days at Dover. He'll be in action at Yonkers Raceway on Friday and Saturday night for the first legs of the the Matchmaker and the Levy.
Sweet Rock returned from the Meadowlands last month and has been invincible since rolling off four consecutive wins capped by a 1:51.1 photo finish score in the $27,500 Delaware Special Handicap.
In a driving finish featuring three horses, Sweet Rock had his nose up first for Allan Davis. Mojo Terror and Tetrick were second, just a head in front of a fast-finishing Just A Jolt and Vic Kirby. Wayne Givens trains the Rocknroll Hanover-Penny For Nickel gelding who now has a 2015 record of four wins in seven races earning $37,150 and $251,981 lifetime. Reggie Hazzard, G.P.Calloway and Legacy Racing own the four-year-old.
Howard Taylor’s Handsome Henry K responded after a tough parked-out trip last week to score a 1:51.1 victory in the $20,000 Open/Handicap Pace. With meet-leading driver Corey Callahan at the controls, the Western Ideal-Color Me Beachy gelding, a $324,455 lifetime winner, won for the second time this year. Papa Ray (Eddie Davis Jr.) was runner-up with Lindwood Player (Tetrick) getting up for third.
