Deacons Valley Wins Dover Feature
Deacons Valley made it two in a row winning the $15,000 4&5-Year-Old Winners Over Trot, which gave meet leading driver Corey Callahan his fourth victory on Wednesday, March 18 at Dover Downs. Tim Tetrick did Callahan one better steering five winners.
Consistent Deacons Valley won for the second time this year, to go along with three second-place finishes and a third in his last seven starts. John Cabot, who has had an excellent meet with trotters trained for owner Bill Cantrell, conditions the five-year-old son of Valley Victor-Deaconess Hanover. He now has won $27,630 this campaign and $98,376 lifetime. Derby (Allan Davis) closed strongly to finish second with Stirling Charisma (Vic Kirby) holding on for third.
Callahan also drove the first winner of three sub-feature $12,000 3,4&5-Year-Old Trots, steering Power Wheel to a 1:58 success for trainer Nick Callahan and owners John and Sarah Swart. The victory was the first this year for the Muscle Yankee-Sprocket Hanover gelding to go with three seconds. Warrawee Onyx (George Dennis) and Jesses Dakota (Tony Morgan) were second and third, respectively.
Tim Tetrick notched a 1:58.2 decision with owner/trainer Chris Allen’s Red Dress Baby, a four-year-old daughter of Hard Rock N Roll-Really Elegant, one of two mares in the $12,000 event. Dionysus Lindy (Dennis) came on for second. Schoolhouse Rock (Corey Braden) was the show horse.
The fastest of the sub-features was another Callahan driven starter, Brit Evans and Foulk Stables’ Prayer Session, a 1:55.2 winner of the $12,500 trot. The Like A Prayer-ENS Tag Session gelding won for the second straight time and fourth this year. The Trish Foulk trainee posted his 21st career victory and upped earnings to $602,646 lifetime. I Like My Boss (Bob Shahan) came on in the lane to finish second in front of Spunky Jack (Roger Plante).
Tony Morgan won the last two races to bring his career record to within eight wins of 15,000.
Just A Jolt, Sweet Rock and Full Of Sand head a $27,500 Delaware Special Handicap on a power-packed Thursday card.
