Cold Certified Prevails In Preferred
Cold Certified earned his 13th career win on Friday the 13th as he defeated the popular mare, Thundering Ovation, in the final strides in the $11,000 Preferred 2 Trot at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
Robert Shepherd worked out a perfect pocket trip aboard the six-year-old trotter, who rallied up the inside down the stretch to prevail by a neck in 2:01 over the "good" track for Port Perry trainer Gary Lance's Gl Racing Inc. The win was Cold Certified's first this year from six starts.
Last week's Preferred winner, Thundering Ovation, overcame her assigned outside post early on and was on the front as usual for most of the mile (:29.2, 1:00.3, 1:30.1) before being collared in the photo finish. Incredable Frank advanced first over approaching the midway mark of the race and claimed third prize just over one length behind.
Cold Certified paid $10 to win as the 4-1 third choice in the seven-horse field that saw Money Maven and Jetcrest make breaks into the first turn.
The Kadabra-I Like Stephanie gelding inched closer to $400,000 in career earnings, with Friday's winnings leaving him just under $4,000 shy of that mark. He has recorded top three finishes in 39 of his 61 starts, including his 13 winning efforts.
