New Patrol Perfect In Dover Feature
Former Woodbine competitor New Patrol scored his third win in a row, besting eight rivals in a career fastest 1:52.3 mile in the Sunday, March 8 feature at Dover Downs.
In the Delaware 4&5-Year-Old Male Pace, George Dennis moved New Patrol into the lead in front of the grandstand, and when Sentosa Island broke stride scattering a part of the field, the leader was never headed keeping his unbeaten record in three starts since arriving from Woodbine in Ontario.
Frank Chick recently acquired the Armbro Deuce-Triple Flip gelding, who is trained by Kevin Lare. The win was the third by New Patrol in seven races this year.
J J Nitro (Eddie Davis Jr.) was runner-up. Art On The Beach (Trace Tetrick) took third.
Trace Tetrick and Vic Kirby racked up driving triples. Eddie Davis Jr. had a double. Tony Morgan also had two wins to raise his career total to 14,981 winning drives. Only four others in history - Dave Palone, nearing 16,000 wins, Germany’s Heinz Wewering, Herve Filion and Cat Manzi - have reached the 15,000-win milestone.
Monday is female pacing day at Dover Downs with Spin Vision looking for a fifth straight win in the $14,000 feature. Monday through Thursday racing starts at 4:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday are “dark” days. Sunday post time is 5:30 p.m.
