Announcing Contest Resumes
Announcer Idol resumed at Flamboro Downs on Sunday night with Kat Cullen of KX 94.7 New Country FM making her race-calling debut.
Assisted by track announcer Gary Guy, Cullen called the action as Get Around Town and driver Bob McClure converted off a pocket trip down the stretch to take the evening's third race.
"Stonebridge Adam is coming up and taking the lead," announced Cullen as the 3-5 favourite moved early to front.
Cullen gave the rundown of the field as Stonebridge Adam toured the Flamboro Downs oval unchallenged. But the action heated up late in the mile as Get Around Town made his move from the pocket spot.
"Down the stretch we have Stonebridge Adam in the lead. Here comes Get Around Town...Get Around Town...Get Around Town!" called Cullen, declaring the winner as he got by Stonebridge Adam in the final strides.
Vernon Cochrane trains the five-year-old gelding, who earned his first win of the year in 1:59.4 over the "sloppy" track, for owner Alan Bodin.
There are just two more weeks left in the Announcer Idol competition before fan voting commences. Announcer Idol's first-ever contestant, Darrin Laidman, Morning Show Host at FreshFM, and defending champion Brian West, Y108's Afternoon Drive Host, are expected to take the mic again over the next two Sundays.
