Every horseperson’s nightmare is having something happen to their trailer when they are transporting horses out on the roadways. That nightmare came true on Wednesday, March 4 when a trailer load of Standardbreds slid off the road and dangled over a bridge.

A report by lex18.com explains that the truck and trailer was transporting six Standardbreds to New York when it went off the road in Bourbon County, Kentucky, just outside of Lexington.

The report explains that the driver of the truck and trailer attempted to swerve a large pool of water that had collected along the roadway. The maneuver caused the trailer to tip over and trap the horses.

The article states that it took rescue teams almost three hours to bring all of the horses to safety. All of the horses were returned to their farm where they were checked out by a veterinarian.
