Mystic Conquest, Brown Dominant At KD
Nine talented trotters lined up on the starting gate in Tuesday’s $16,500 Preferred at Kawartha Downs, and Mystic Conquest turned in a flawless, front-end triumph
for the tandem of trainer Mike Wade and driver Reg Gassien.
The seven-year-old son of King Conch, who was sent off at odds of 5-1, was hustled to immediate command by Gassien who laid down panels of :28.2, :57.2 and 1:26.3 with the gelding. A :30-second final frame is all it took to post the 1:56.3 decision.
Mystic Conquest held on for the half-length decision over Macho Lindy. Tritri rounded out the top three.
Wade, of Little Britain, ON, holds the papers on the 19-time winner who watched his lifetime earnings jump to $190,767 with the win.
Driver Gord Brown held the hot hands on the night, clicking for five wins. Brown scored with Boo Hanover in Race 3, Lasensa in Race 5, Return Fire in Race 7, Actionnuke in Race 9 before ending the night on a high note with Cocktail Shaker in Race 10.
Brown's 2009 win total is up to 80 and the Brighton, Ont.-based driver sports an enviable .0363 UDR.
