Kingston Casino Bill Amended
During a closed session on Tuesday, February 17, Kingston City Council voted in favour of repealing a bylaw that the former council had put in place. The former bylaw would have allowed the city to discuss the possibility of a new casino in the area, but not in Kingston’s downtown core.
News of the vote comes courtesy of a report by the Kingston Whig-Standard which explains that the council has now decided that it does not want a casino anywhere in Kingston.
Many thought that the matter was officially dealt with after last October’s referendum on the issue. Although, due to low voter response to the ballot question, the results from the public vote in October were not binding.
