Grand Slam For Charmed Life

The winning streak is now four-in-a-row and counting for Charmed Life, who rallied off cover to capture Monday’s $34,000 Preferred Handicap Trot at Woodbine Racetrack.

With James MacDonald picking up the catch-drive behind the Dave Menary-trained star, Charmed Life got away seventh from her Post 8 perch on the starting gate. She angled off the rail and got into the flow on the way to half, and she’d advanced to third on the outside by the time the field hit the three-quarter pole.

Fearless Man did the early roadwork through fractions of :27.4, :57 and 1:25.2, but he – and the rest of the field – was no match for the late-rushing Charmed Life. The mare kicked off cover in the lane and sprinted home in a :28-second clip en route to winning by 4-1/4 lengths over Cool Guy in 1:53.4. Charlie Is A Joker came on late to finish third.

The five-year-old daughter of Majestic Son-Christina M, who was sent off as the 4-5 favourite, races for Menary Racing Inc, Brad Gray and Michael Guerriero. The OSS graduate, who went 9-for-25 last season, is 17 for 60 in her career. The $17,000 payday bumped her overall cash stash to $752,257.
