Horsemen To Purchase Sports Creek?
It has been reported that the Michigan Harness Horsemen's Association could possibly be interested in purchasing Sport Creek Raceway, which announced On Tuesday (January 6) that it is shutting down and looking for potential buyers.
Michigan Harness Horsemen's Association Executive Director Phil Stommen has told The Flint Journal that his organization has “never been in a position where we've had to fully vet that question,” speaking about whether the MHHA would be interested in buying the raceway.
Stomen went on to say "Certainly there's a possibility and it's something we should explore for the benefit of our horsemen."
Sports Creek Raceway General Manager Chris Locking announced on Tuesday that the Michigan racetrack is closing and is seeking interested buyers. Locking was quoted as saying, "it's time to go another direction and hopefully it will turn out to be on a brighter side."
In late December the Michigan Gaming Control Board issued a cease and desist order that instructed Sports Creek Raceway to cease all live and simulcast pari-mutuel wagering effective January 1. The order was issued in anticipation of Sports Creek not having a 2015 contract with a certified horsemen’s organization by the December 31 deadline specified in law.
