Mach It Big Defeats The Favourite
Mach It Big made his first start of the 2015 campaign a winning one taking the afternoon feature event in 1:58.4 at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Marc Campbell drove Mach It Big to victory in the $2,000 Preferred 2, tracking race favourite Astor (Jason Hughes) through splits of :29, :59 and 1:28.4 over the "good" track before overpowering the pacesetter in the stretch. The Jonah Moase trainee, owned by Mikaela Lustic of Cornwall P.E.I., returned $5.50 to win. Astor was second with Cheyenne Ford (Kenny Arsenault) completing the triactor.
It was Campbell’s third score of the day after getting his picture taken with Benny Rabbit then guiding Cheyenne Dunckley to top honours earlier in the program for owner Reg MacPherson and trainer Kevin MacLean. The MacPherson/ MacLean team also enjoyed success with Forever Paradise, who claimed race 14 by six and a half lengths in 2:00.1 for catch-driver Corey MacPherson.
In other action, Caliban Hanover, under the command of Ron Gass, won the trot division for owner Wendell MacDonald of Cornwall. Veteran pacer Blu Meadow Willie picked up his 53rd lifetime win for owners Bob and Brenda MacInnis of Summerside while pilots Jason Hughes, Gary Chappell and Brian MacPhee started the new season with driving doubles.
The handle for the 15-dash program was $37,456.
