Stay Granted To Stonebridge Rich
Christmas came early for the connections of trotter Stonebridge Rich. As of Wednesday, Dec. 24, the horse had been removed from Ontario's suspended horses list.
Stonebridge Rich is the horse at the root of an issue regarding withdrawal times and the therapeutic medication carbocaine (mepivacaine). Trainer Anthony MacDonald and Ontario Racing Commission-licensed veterinarian Dr. Chris Grossenbacher discussed the details with Trot Insider earlier this month, with both trainer and vet insistent that the horse received less than the maximum dose of the local anesthetic outside of the recommended administration window outlined by the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency.
On Wednesday, Stonebridge Rich was granted a stay by the ORC. This will permit the horse to race while the ORC investigates the particulars of the positive test. With Stonebridge Rich off the ineligible horse list, MacDonald told Trot Insider that he'll be dropping the horse back into the entry box in short order.

Bravo, I have never felt the horse owners should ever be penalized. They put on the show as far as racing goes.

The horse received a positive test from the results of a post race urine sample, the same test the ORC has used for years and now its the responsibility of that commission to prove the results. What precedent is this setting?
