Despite enduring broken equipment, the seven-year-old mare by San Pellegrino out of Fetching took a new mark of 1:59.2 winning by over four lengths in his first start for trainer David Jim King and owner Hans Mueller of Barrie, Ont.
Driven by Tomas Dalborg, Wooden Shoes was last away as Sampson Eden (Gord Brown) led to the half in :56.4. During the third quarter, Muckross (Reginald Gassien) landed on top as Wooden Shoes switched gears and avoided traffic problems by swinging three-wide at three-quarters. Sent off at odds of 7-1, Wooden Shoes sprinted home in :31 for the win over Sigarmill (Fred Brethour) and Devil Machine (Greg Liezert).
Wooden Shoes has yet to finish worst than third in his five starts this year. The bay’s 17th career win pushed her bankroll to $91,226.
