Kingston Officially Rejects Casino
It has been reported that on Tuesday, December 16, councillors in Kingston approved a motion that conveys to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. that the city is not interested in becoming a willing host community for a casino.
An article on kingstonregion.com has quoted Kingston Mayor Bryan Paterson as saying that the motion is “very simple” and “very direct.”
The report cites the October ballot question in Kingston where 67 per cent of participating voters rejected the idea of allowing Kingston to be the home of a new casino.
The kingstonregion.com article has quoted Mayor Paterson as saying that “It’s been a very divisive issue, but at the end of the day the people have spoken.”
Additionally, on October 28 in the Ontario Legislature at Queen’s Park, Finance Minister Charles Sousa said that the provincial government would abandon its plans to relocate the Thousand Island Casino from Gananoque to Kingston.
