Gracie Montana Rolling; Masse Mastery
After starting the year a dismal 0-for-26, pacing mare Gracie Montana has really found her winning ways late in the season for owners Jeff and Debbie Elchuk of Surrey, British Columbia.
The seven-year-old daughter of Camluck-Sportstalk recently moved back into the barn of trainer/driver Bill Davis, and it’s been a profitable homecoming for the 37-time winner.
Gracie Montana got away sixth in Friday’s $10,500 Fillies & Mares Open – a class that she’s won in three of her last four outings – before making a bold move in the late stages of the mile en route to the impressive victory. When Davis cut her loose in the lane she responded by driving away to the 1:55.4 score over Skade and Just One More.
Davis has watched the mare posted a 4-1-0 record in her six starts since returning to his stable, and she’s managed to bank more than $22,000 during that stretch. She’s now a career winner of $321,768.
Serge Masse had a wicked Friday evening thanks to a four-win performance on the 12-race card.
The veteran trainer/driver clicked with Cajun Beat (2:00), Remember Terror (1:59.1), Great Quote (1:56.1) and Just Ryan (1:56.1).
Masse has now won with nearly one-third of his starters this season going 19-for-61. That translates into an eye-catching UTR of .433. He’s sent out 1,913 winners over the course of his career, and his stable is quickly closing in on $8 million in lifetime earnings.
