Sunshine Sale Questions Answered
Officials with the Sunshine Select Sale are now accepting entries for the late January sale which will take place at the South Florida Training Center in Lake Worth, Florida.
Additionally, Bob Marks has provided answers to some common questions he has faced regarding the sale, set for January 25, 2015, which has been branded as ‘the last yearling sale of the season.’
In regard to why the sale has been billed as the last yearling sale of the season, Marks has explained that, in effect, it is. He has stated that the sale represents the final opportunity to obtain a yearling that is now a ‘gaited and going’ and ‘newly turned’ two-year-old for the lucrative stakes season later on.
Marks also stated that there were three specific reasons why the sale was scheduled for January 25. One reason is because the date falls in between the NFL finals and Super Bowl Sunday. Additionally, Marks stated that northerners are more likely to visit south Florida in January than in any other month. He also stated that the January 25 date gives purchasers of the horses extra time to go with them before reaching the stakes deadline.
Also, Marks stated that the horses in the sale are not simply consignor culls that didn’t appear at the yearling sales. Marks has said that many of the colts and fillies were purchased at the Lexington and Harrisburg sales for the expressed purpose of pin-hooking at the Sunshine Select Sale. He did state that others may not have made the sales for various cosmetic reasons, but will have been pointed for the January 25 sale, accordingly.
In regard to if potential buyers can see the horses in motion, Marks has stated ‘absolutely.’ Marks went on to state that videos will be posted on the sale’s website prior to the sale and that there will be special show days at the South Florida Trotting Center just for that purpose. In addition, Marks stated that the training centre locations and barn numbers of all consigned horses will be posted on the website.
Marks also stated that people will not have to consign and show their own horse. He stated that the Sunshine Select Sales Agency has been created for just that purpose. Trainers can ship horses and not worry about the presentation. Marks stated that experienced ‘showers’ will be on hand for just that purpose. Additionally, he stated that local trainers can go with their horses as they see fit and experienced personnel will be available for the same purpose for those too far away.
