Dover Newcomer Tops Open Trotters
Martz Time made his first local start a winning one taking the $18,000 Open Trot on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Dover Downs.
With the starting field reduced to five as Cash On Delivery and Im So Striking were scratched, Martz Time, in his Dover debut, made a hurried move from third on the backstretch to collar front-trotting Oh No Three and then sped away to his sixth victory of the season, a 1:54.3 clocking in the week’s feature trot. Andy Miller was in the bike for trainer Nick Surick and owners John McGill and Brian Carsey. Baximum (Allan Davis), last week’s winner, closed strongly for second in front of Powerful Charger (Trace Tetrick).
With the victory, the five-year-old Primetime Ranger gelding’s earnings climbed to $109,700 in 2014 and $225,081 lifetime.
Corey Callahan steered Mike Casalino and trainer Dylan Davis’ Ronan to a 1:57 victory in a $14,000 Winners-Over Trot. Celia Hall (Roger Plante) was runner-up. The third finisher was Joyeaux Dream (Ross Wolfenden).
In a $13,000 Winners-Over Trot, trainer/driver Vic Kirby piloted The Triple Lindy to a 1:55.2 score for C&G Racing Stable. Dnieper (Tony Morgan) came on to finish second. Ashes Cash (Tyler Raymer) was third.
Ross Wolfenden, who drove his 6,000th win Tuesday, added three more to his total. Vic Kirby, Jonathan Roberts and trainer Joe Hundertpfund had two wins, as did Trish Foulk, with an owner/trainer double.
