Judge Rules In Favour Of Veitch
Franklin Circuit Court Judge Thomas Wingate has ruled that former Kentucky Horse Racing Commission Racing Steward John Veitch was improperly terminated in 2011 and that he should be reinstated and receive back wages.
News of the ruling comes courtesy of a report by ESPN which states that the KHRC had the power to dismiss Veitch, not the Public Protection Cabinet which did so.
"The hearing officer concluded, and this court agrees, that the statutes and regulations make it clear that such personnel actions must originate from within the KHRC," Judge Wingate wrote in his decision.
Veitch was fired from the KHRC in November of 2011 over the Life At Ten incident at the 2010 Breeders' Cup.
