Astor Wires Charlottetown Pacers
Overlooked at the betting windows, last week's runner-up Astor went down the road to win the featured $2,300 Preferred at Charlottetown Driving Park at odds of 12-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Trainer/driver Jason Hughes put post seven starter Astor on the front during the opening quarter and never looked back, leading through fractions of :29.1, :58.4 and 1:28.2 en route to the 1:56.3 victory. Cheyenne Ford finished one length behind off a pocket trip at long odds of 22-1 while Machinthesand finished third. Favourite All Turain, winner of his last two Preferred events, could not overcome his assigned post eight and finished back in fourth after trying to rally off the cover of Hughes trainee Narragansett, who faded to seventh.
Foxyhall Racing's five-year-old Camluck gelding picked up his fourth win of the campaign and lifted his seasonal earnings to $22,000. Astor returned $26.60 to win.
