Darling Celebrates First Training Win
Justin Darling sent out his first winner as a trainer on Friday night at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
Darling's first victory came courtesy of his own three-year-old pacer Keystone Dalton, who pulled off a 13-1 upset in the fifth race for $10,000 claimers. The Mach Three gelding took over the lead just past the half and drew away to win by nearly seven lengths in 1:57.1 over the "good" track.
Darling, 33, is the son of respected horseman Jack Darling. The resident of Cambridge, Ont. works for his father's stable and was making just his second start with his own trainee.
Travis Henry drove Keystone Dalton for Darling and went four-for-four on the 12-race card. He also picked up driving wins with his own trainees Zorgwijk Naveed ($18.60) and Brontewine ($5.80), as well as the Preferred 3 winner, Nothingbutmach ($8.60), for trainer and co-owner Dean Nixon.
