Doyle Keen On Lacombe
It has been confirmed that announcer Shannon 'Sugar' Doyle will be calling the on-track action during the upcoming Alberta Downs meet. The personable race-caller has told Trot Insider that he is expecting the Lacombe course to be the scene of some big
miles.
"Lacombe is going to turn a lot of heads... it's the largest track surface in Canada for harness racing being 200 feet short of a mile. It'll be history in the making and I'm very happy to be a part of it," Doyle told Trot Insider.
"I started out calling races on a half-mile track, then moved on to the five-eighths and now it will be a mile," he said. "I think we'll see Western Canada's first sub-1:50 mile and I know the horsemen will be gunning for it."
Alberta Standardbred Horse Association racing manager Fred Gillis yesterday confirmed with Trot Insider that a 15-day Alberta Downs meet has been confirmed and will kick-off on April 18.
"The track surface will be in good shape," Doyle said. "It should be similar to what's at Northlands, which I think is one of the fastest five-eighths mile tracks in North America."
