Laszlo Toth Passes

Longtime Ottawa-area owner-trainer-driver Laszlo Toth passed away on Friday, March 13. Trot Insider has obtained the arrangement details for the well-liked

70-year-old horseman that immigrated to Canada in 1956.

Laszlo, a resident of Ottawa, is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth, daughter Sylvia Loyer, sons Emil ('Mimi') and Steve and five grandchildren. Emil is currently a driver-trainer at Rideau Carleton Raceway and Steve a groom at Pompano Park.

Laszlo worked alongside Sylvia and her horsemen husband Luc Loyer until recently going into the Ottawa Civic Hospital to battle cancer.

A mass has been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 21 at St. Elizabeth's Church, located a 1303 Leaside Ave., Ottawa, Ont. The church is located at the corner of Merivale Rd.

A moment of silence took place during the Sunday, March 15 card of racing at Rideau Carleton Raceway in honour of Toth, who was known for his hard work around the area racetracks. The quiet horsemen always put the horses first and was a much-respected member of the area's racing community.
