Burgess' First Win Is A Family Affair
Taylor Burgess celebrated his first driving win aboard his family's homebred trotting colt on Friday night at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
Competing in just his fifth pari-mutuel race, the 22-year-old reinsman sent Concept ($9.60), the lone freshman in the field, wire-to-wire from post five to win the Friday night opener in 2:02 over favourite The Wing Man.
The Federal Flex colt is trained by Burgess' father Blair and is owned by his mother Karin and grandfather Robert.
While the statistics available to Standardbred Canada show the training win for Blair was his 1,000th, Trot Insider has learned that his career win total is missing some U.S. victories prior to 1992. Standardbred Canada congratulates Blair Burgess on surpassing the 1,000 win plateau as a trainer.
