Late Closers, Purse Increase At Pompano
With year-end racing opportunities in the waning stage as northern tracks go into their winter hiatus, Pompano Park is gearing up for the prime of their season with Late Closing events and other 'condition' events stretching from January through their closing in late June.
Brett Revington, Director of Racing, said the new implementations, along with industry wide coverage from TVG, could propel Pompano Park to new plateaus of success for the horsemen and the fans.
“First off,” Revington said, “with the added spark from TVG among other things, we expect to offer purse increases in all classes by mid-December with these increases in effect at least through the prime of our season.”
Revington expects the top Opens to race for $15,000, an increase of 50 per cent from current levels.
He added, “I also expect that we will have ‘Open 2’ events, which will also have high class claimers -- up to $30,000 -- going for around $12,000.”
Racing Secretary Greg DeFrank is putting the final touches on Late Closers for claimers ranging from $6,000 to $30,000 to be contested in January and February with other condition series in the planning stages for March and April.
Revington continued, “We’ll also have some lucrative events for horsemen that intend to stay with us the entire route.
“With the mixed sale on tap in Harrisburg, we know that owners might be anxious to get some of their investment back...especially during the beautiful winters here with our 75 degree breezes gently bathing us from the ocean.”
Pompano Park’s 126-night racing season continues through June 27, 2015 with the prime time of the season featuring racing five nights per week.
