P H Supercam Takes Philly Feature
A field of eight aged pacers lined up for the feature event from Harrah's Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon, an open affair going for a purse of $35,000.
The wagering public put their support behind Bamond Racing's P H Supercam, a winner of four of his last six races against similar. Other contenders included Bigtown Hero, the winner of the Gold Cup and Saucer in Canada, Burke Racing's Speed Again, coming off of two straight wins at this class, and Casie Coleman trainee Lucan Hanover, who was looking to extend his winning streak to four.
P H Supercam (Tim Tetrick) wasted little time getting into gear, as he left fast off the wings, with Speed Again (Yannick Gingras) securing the pocket, by the opening quarter in :27. After a rated second quarter of :28.1, the outer flow went on the attack, as Lucan Hanover (David Miller) rushed up to challenge for the lead, with Bigtown Hero (Ron Pierce) establishing second-over position. After three-quarters in 1:23 (:27.4), the battle raged on up top, with Bigtown Hero floating three-wide. In the stretch, P H Supercam put away the challenge of Lucan Hanover, and was able to hold off a late rushing Wake Up Peter (Brett Miller) to win by a head, stopping the clock in 1:51.3 (:28.3). Bigtown Hero finished third.
It was P H Supercam's 39th career win, notching his career earnings to near $860,000. He is trained by P J Fraley. The winner paid $5.00, keying a $50.20 exacta, and a trifecta worth $413.00.
