Empire City at Yonkers Raceway Honoured
Empire City at Yonkers Raceway is one of four businesses that will receive statewide awards by the Governor and Board of Regents next month for the hiring of individuals with disabilities.
The breakfast ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Doral Arrowwood in Rye Brook, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The honour is being presented by VESID, the Office of Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities. VESID is part of the New York State Education Department and coordinates events throughout New York State. VESID Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rebecca Cort is scheduled present the award.
"We are honoured to be cited for this award," said Empire City Food and Beverage Manager Steve White. "Individuals with disabilities have tremendous ambition, talent and skills which are often underutilized, and they have made great contributions to our workplace."
The program is part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which is celebrating throughout October. It recognizes the achievements of individuals with disabilities in the workforce as well as honouring businesses that have hired them. The official theme for this year is "Workers with Disabilities: Talent for a Winning Team."
In all, 75 businesses across New York are receiving regional awards across New York State, with Empire City at Yonkers Raceway earning one of four statewide accolades.
Empire City at Yonkers Raceway is celebrating its first anniversary Thursday, Oct. 11.
