Homebreds Sweep Tuesday Preferreds
A pair of Preferred events were contested as part of Tuesday's card at The Raceway at the Western Fair District, and each race was captured by a homebred.
In the $7,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 Pace, Insincerity and driver Scott Coulter were gate-to-wire winners in 1:57.4. From the rail, Coulter was able to seize early command and carve out fractions of :28.1, :58.2 and 1:27.1 before clinching victory with a :30.3 closing panel. Private Performanc (Alfie Carroll) closed strongly for runner-up honours, just a half length back with pocket-sitting Royal Cover Up (Paul MacKenzie) a length back in third.
Trained by breeder and owner Bill Hamm of West Lorne, Ont., five-year-old Insincerity (Rambaran - Super Filly) notched her fourth win of the season -- the 24th of her career.
One race later in the $7,000 Preferred 3 Trot, Ryan Holliday had the rail with Just One Day and employed identical tactics. Through sensible fractions of :29, 1:00.1 and 1:30, Just One Day sprinted home in :29.3 to trip the timer in 1:59.3. Just One Day and Holliday were more than three lengths to the good over Talbotcreek Jewely (Trevor Henry) with Erin Hall (Travis Henry) rounding out the triactor.
Graham Jackson of Listowel, Ont. is the owner and breeder of eight-year-old Just One Day (Earl - Just One Night). The David Holliday trainee notched her 40th lifetime win in the process.
