Machinthesand Wins; New Leader Emerges
Machinthesand, under the command of Ken Murphy, was able to track down Rash B Havior in deep stretch to win the afternoon feature in 1:58.3 on Sunday at Red Shores Summerside.
The victory halted Rash B Havior’s winning streak at three. The fractions of the mile were :28.3, :59 and 1:29.3 over the "good" track. Machinthesand is owned by Noonan Holdings Ltd. – Russell and Karen Noonan of Middleton, P.E.I. Mark Bradley is the trainer. Rash B Havior (Walter Cheverie) was second with Carrera Angel (Rocky Schurman) third.
Saulsbrook Balance and Willie Murphy won the Ralph & Edythe Cole Memorial in 2:03.1. Murphy put the Cindy MacDonald trainee on the point for the wire-to-wire score to record the trotter’s 45th lifetime victory for co-owner Tanya MacKinnon of Souris, P.E.I. Majian Chester (James Ripley) was second with Seanchai (Jason Hughes) third.
Bunny Mach, with Jason Hughes in the bike, captured the Ivan & Isabelle Cameron Memorial in 1:59.4 for owners Donald and Steven MacRae of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I. Windemere Eric (Gary Chappell) finished second while Casimir Luciano (Brian MacPhee) completed the top three.
Hughes had a driving triple on the program and takes over the top spot in dash leader category at Summerside with 44 wins with only one program remaining on the season scheduled for next Sunday. The Stratford, P.E.I. native also moves into the lead in the trainer standings with 19 victories.
Walter Cheverie had a great day at the office posting a hat-trick on the afternoon. Cheverie sits third in the driving standings at Summerside.
Gary Chappell had a driving double on the 13-dash card.
