Thundering Ovation Upsets In Preferred
There wasn’t a lot of pari-mutuel love given to Thundering Ovation in Tuesday’s $7,350 Preferred 3 for trotters, but that didn’t stop the mare from posting a 2:00.2 decision as a 14-1 outsider.
With Ryan Holliday barking out orders from the racebike, Thundering Ovation got away fourth after starting from the second tier. She held that position to the mid-way point, but she eventually tipped to the outside before firing three-wide going to the three-quarter pole. That explosive move proved to be the winning one as she drew away to win by 4-1/2 lengths over Heres The Magic in 2:00.2. Bold Strike, who was parked every step of the mile, held on to grab the show dough.
Gerry Sloan trains the five-year-old daughter of Thunder Road-Shesintuff for Joanne and Courtney Sloan of Harley, Ontario. The homebred improved her 2014 record to 9-1-2 from 22 starts with the win, and her seasonal bankroll climbed to $51,538 in the process. The 20-time winner has stashed away more than $214,000 in her career.
