Campbell Stars In Maritime Elims
Driver Marc Campbell dominated Truro Raceway's Sunday afternoon harness racing card, which featured the elimination round for the two-year-old divisions of the Maritime Breeders Stakes.
Campbell swept the $3,000 eliminations for two-year-old pacing fillies with Dusty Lane Bria for trainer Ken Wilkie and Woodmere Articblue for conditioner Ken Collins. Dusty Lane Bria went wire-to-wire in a career-best 1:58 mile with Atlantic Breeders Crown champion Woodmere Dancenart following a length behind and Thebigbamtheory back in third. Woodmere Articblue wore down pacesetter and eventual third-place finisher Elm Grove Joanette to prevail in a new mark of 2:00 while Miss Oromocto followed her cover to place over three lengths behind.
Campbell also sent his own trainee Proven Desire wire-to-wire to win one of the $3,000 two-year-old pacing colt eliminations in 2:00.2. Atlantic Breeders Crown winner Dixieland Band followed one length behind in second and Camco Titan finished third.
J J Romeo and trainer/driver Mike Stevenson won the other two-year-old pacing colt elimination in 2:00.1 over Bngs Express and George.
Campbell was also aboard J K Blaze, who romped to a five and a quarter length victory in a $1,500 elimination for two-year-old trotters. The Joseph Smallwood trainee stopped the teletimer at 2:06 for a new lifetime mark. Windemere Ty was second-best with Paymenowpaymelater rounding out the top three finishers.
In the other trot elimination, Dusty Lane Jacob and Corey MacPherson inherited the victory in a short field scratched down to four. Suicide Shift had crossed the wire eight lengths on top, but caused a flat tire to Skyanne's sulky when overtaking that rival before the half and was placed last. The win was awarded to initial second-place finisher Dusty Lane Jacob, who clocked his first winning mile in 2:09.3 for trainer Russell Newman. Buddy The Elf inherited the runner-up honours.
A six-time winner on the day, Campbell was also victorious with City Girl Hanover for trainer George Rennison and Sterling Seelster for trainer Jonah Moase, who enjoyed a perfect afternoon at the track with all four of his starters scoring victories in their respective assignments. Moase's other winners included Brookdale Heather, Barrett Jackson and Bakardi Arti.
