Hippodrome 3R Meet Wraps Up Sunday

The Hippodrome 3R closes out its 2014 harness racing season on Sunday with a 10-race program.

As part of the closing day card, 3R will pay tribute to the 14-year-old pacer Robert R Robert, who will be making the final start of his career in the sixth race pace. A special presentation will take place after the race in the winner’s circle.

The gelded son of Albert Albert, despite being winless in 17 starts this year, has made 275 career starts with 44 wins and earnings of $238,240. He competed every year for 12 straight years and every one of his starts were in Canada. He retires with a record of 1:52.2 taken at the old Hippodrome Montreal at age six.

Trained and co-owned by Nathalie Migneault with Eric Dechamplain of Saint-Donat, Que., Robert R Robert will be retired to his owner’s farm where he will serve as a riding horse.

Robert R. Robert starts from post seven and will be driven by Louis Roy. They are the 4-1 fourth choice in the race.

With Sunday being closing day, both the leading driver and trainer honours for the season are already decided. In a complete blow-out, driver Denis St Pierre takes top honours as the meet's leading driver. St Pierre blew away the competition this season, nearly doubling his win total over his nearest competitor. He has 63 wins going into the final race card, 29 wins more than Stephane Brosseau in second place with 34 wins. St Pierre also sports a very impressive Universal Driving Rating (battling average) of .460.

The training title will go to Eric Valiquette with 22 wins from the 70 horses he sent behind the gate during the meet and also closes the season with an excellent UTR average of .460. Finishing in second is Daniel Martin with 16 wins.

On the racetrack, Boogie Panic looks to remain unbeaten and also be the winningest horse at the Hippodrome 3R as he looks to close out the meet in attempting to score his eighth straight win in the 10th race finale pace.

A three-year-old colt by Major In Art, Boogie Panic never raced at age two and is making up for lost time this season at 3R. Trained by Francis Richard for owner/breeder Brian Paquet of Quebec, Que., Boogie Panic has a record of 1:57.1 and made every one of his starts this year at the Hippodrome 3R.

He starts from post three and is the 5-2 morning line favourite for driver St Pierre. His main competition will come from M G Kudos, Huronexpress and A Goodday To Win.
