Jamieson Wins 3R Drivers' Tournament
Driver Jody Jamieson added another title Sunday to his growing collection, coming from behind to capture the Hippodrome 3R drivers' tournament.
"I had my eye on this trophy earlier in the day. I'm happy I'm the one holding it," Jamieson said after being presented with the silverware at the end of the eight-race tournament.
Jamieson, who in August captured the National Driving Championship at Charlottetown, sewed up the victory in Trois-Rivieres by winning back-to-back races, the sixth and seventh of the tournament, with R Es Art ($6.50) and Articular ($5.30).
Through the first six races, the lead had changed six times. Jamieson stayed in the hunt early by accumulating points in every race before sealing the deal with his consecutive winners.
He wound up with 191 points to finish ahead of the other Ontario representative, Sylvain Filion (133 points), and local stalwart Stephane Gendron (129 points). All three won two races. Stephane Brosseau and Denis St. Pierre won the others.
"Thank you Trois-Rivières. I adore Trois-Rivières, but not Les Habitants (the Montréal Canadiens)," Jamieson quipped.
He thanked the track for its hospitality and for keeping racing alive in Québec.
"Ì love being here, love what they're doing with the place. And the horses today have been fabulous. I haven't driven a bad horse today."
