Track Record For Ghost Pine
While the three-year-old pacing colt that many would associate with Kelly Hoerdt is National Debt, Ghost Pine definitely turned some heads on Sunday with a track record performance for the O'Brien Award winning horseman.
With Hoerdt still on the sidelines following an accident in September, driver Jim Marino picked up the drive on Ghost Pine during Sunday's card at Alberta Downs. Marino settled the sophomore into the pocket before moving to the front before the :55.2 half. From there, Ghost Pine paced to a four-length lead through a 1:23.2 third panel and sprinted home in :28.1 to trip the timer in 1:51.3, a new Alberta Downs track record for three-year-old pacing colts.
The time of mile shaved two-fifths of a second off the old 1:52 mark held by Tip Tap Top. Clintons Escape's 1:50.2 mile is still the fastest for three-year-old colts and/or geldings.
Co-owned by Hoerdt with Blair Corbeil, Ghost Pine (Badlands Hanover - Just Sassy) now boasts 10 wins in 20 lifetime starts with earnings in excess of $52,000.
