Lucky Jim Sweeps Horse & Groom
It was a Sunday afternoon stroll and a series sweep for Lucky Jim, who rallied off cover to take the $96,000 final
of the Horse & Groom Series at the Meadowlands.
The four-year-old son of S Js Photo, who scorched the New Jersey oval in a World Record clocking of 1:51.3 one week ago, returned to take this afternoon’s fifth race feature in a stakes record clocking of 1:53 for the husband and wife duo of driver Andy Miller and trainer Julie Miller.
The record-setting performance erased the former stakes record of 1:54 established by Two Weeks Notice in the 2007 edition.
Miller dropped into an early five-hole with the 1-5 favourite while Sauce Two K and Rompaway Alvin locked horns to the quarter pole before the latter cleared in :27.4. Sauce Two K quickly came back around to reclaim the top spot, and he took the field through middle splits of :56 and 1:24.3.
Azur went first-over around the final turn before quickly fading out of the picture. Lucky Jim rode that one’s cover to the head of the lane before catapulting to the lead and drawing off to win in an effortless manner.
Canadian-owned Knight Of Intrigue, who races for Glenview Livestock Ltd. of Wallenstein, ON, rallied to second while Sauce Two K had to settle for third.
Now six-for-six in 2009, Lucky Jim has managed to stash away $96,500 during that period for the Pennsylvania partnership of David & John Prushnok of Punxsutawney and William Gregg of Indiana.
