Big Day For Pond At Leamington
Northern Ontario trainer Joanne Pond may have had some setbacks in her life, but racing Saturday afternoon at Leamington Raceway provided her with a positive outlook many trainers could only dream to achieve.
Ms. Pond sent three horses to the post, and made three trips to the winner's circle, including one with a new Leamington track record co-holder.
The star of the afternoon was Tendtowin, a No Pan Intended-Garden Gate Creme gelding who equalled the pacing standard winning the $5,000 Preferred 3 in 1:57.2. Owned by the Seaspray Stables Ltd. of Nanaimo, B.C., the four-year-old came off the pace to win, going away by five and a quarter lengths. The win was the eighth in 14 starts this year for Tendtowin, who has over $45,000 in the bank.
Pond's other two winners included Tentowind's younger full brother Sea Star (1:58.2), a three-year-old gelding also owned by Seaspray Stables, and a good-looking Western Ideal-Fashion Week two-year-old filly, High Fashion Mel (2:00.1), now undefeated in three starts for Stephan Pryjma of Whitby, Ont.
All three winners were driven by Alfie Carroll, who had a total of four winning drives on the 10-race card.
