A total of 100 lots of horse-related books, plus 22 pieces from award-winning artists and photographers will

be auctioned Saturday, March 21 at the Can-Am Show at the London Agriplex. Proceeds will go to the new Regional Equine and Agricultural Centre (REACH) adjoining the racetrack in Clinton, ON.

A couple of outstanding items in the art section feature harness racing subjects: Mohawk Morning Double, an earlier original oil by much-awarded Campbellville equine artist Linda Shantz: and a framed print of Our Lucky Killean, a pastel by HTA Special Excellence Artist and standardbred horseperson Marni Koelln of Cambridge.

Among the many harness racing collectible books in the auction are: Derrydale Press Limited Editions of Messenger, and Lady Suffolk, both by John Hervey; American Harness Racing (1948) by John Hervey and Ed Keller; Wallace’s Trotting Registers (4 volumes) from the 1880s; WH. Gocher’s 1928 trilogy of Pacealong, Trotalong and Racealong; and a 1950 First Edition of Marguerite Henry’s Born To Trot.

Attendees will be treated to the selling talents of David Jacob of Mitchell, ON, recently declared Champion Auctioneer of 2009 by his peers in the Auctioneers Association of Ontario.
