Winkys Pride In A Pari-Mutuel Puzzler
A set of $7,000 Preferred 3 events for trotters offered fans a Flamboro Downs the best of both worlds Thursday night, with Winkys Pride providing a pari-mutuel windfall while Osprey Vision won as he pleased.
Winkys Pride pulled off a 32-1 upset thanks in large part to the two-hole trip she was treated to. Travis Henry grabbed a two-hole ride behind the odds-on favourite, Cimeronken, through fractions of :29, :59.2 and 1:28.2. Winkys Pride found clearance late and fired home in :29.2 to post the win. Cimeronken was a lapped-on second, with Heres The Magic a bang-up third.
Rob Hummel of Puslinch, Ontario owns and trains the six-year-old Amigo Hall-Winkys Smile miss. It was her sixth win of the year and the 24th of her career. She’s managed to stash away in excess of $160,000 to date.
Just two races later Osprey Vision won as he pleased in his assignment for trainer Don Lindsey. With owner Dave Boughton of Carlisle, Ontario at the helm, the five-year-old son of Ken Warkentin-Summerhill Hallie led the field through fractions of :28, :58.4 and 1:29 before using a :29.4 kicker to win by 7-1/2 lengths over Just One Day in 1:58.4. Consumer Rate took home the third prize.
The gelding is now 3-for-25 this season and 11-for-61 in his career. The lion’s share of the loot lifted his career earnings to $76,820.
