'Vertigo' Earns Second Opening Week Win
Vertigo Hanover captured his second opening week win in four days Saturday afternoon and connected in identical wire-to-wire fashion as he did in Wednesday’s opener.
The classy eight-year-old The Panderosa gelding scored a triumph Wednesday in 1:53, then shaved a full second off that time in connecting over six other pacers in a C-2 conditioned event Saturday. Chuck Perry drove the Henry Lewis trainee to fractions of :27.1, :55.4 and 1:24 before crossing three and three-quarter lengths ahead of Prince Of Badlands in 1:52.
Vertigo Hanover has four wins in just seven starts this year, and saw his career bankroll exceed the $326,000 mark.
Brian Detgen’s Forceful Gale and Jane Dunavant’s Apparition earned division victories in the “Good Ole USA” Trotting Series Saturday as well.
Forceful Gale passed five front-steppers in the final quarter-mile to post a one length win in a lifetime tying best of 1:57.1 while Apparition shook off rust from a four month layoff and also crossed one length in front in 1:57.4.
Colonial Downs presents nine harness races Sunday at 1 p.m. and will have an exhibition camel race and ostrich race to complement the card.
